Cathy Yao Kindred was very good at taking care of my father after going through a heart attack, cardiac arrest, and a stroke. He was bedridden and put on a ventilator while in shock trauma for over a month, but we were at Kindred for about three weeks and they were able to wean him off the ventilator and get him back on his feet. The nurses and respiratory/physical therapists there are very nice and helpful and the food is also very good quality. I would highly recommend this hospital for your loved ones to get better.

Denise Duffy Overall an excellent experience.
Professional and compassionate nursing staff. Most notable: Blondell, and Liana.
High quality therapy services. Most notable: Annalise and Sophia (range of motion), Jessica (speech therapy) and Tanya (occupational therapy).
We experienced stays of one week in the High Observation Unit (HOU) and two weeks in the medical surge area of the Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) center at Kindred Clear Lake.
We appreciated the opportunity to meet with the care management team for the weekly discussion.
Sarah G in Care Management was very helpful.
One area that needs work is discharge coordination and planning. Remember that while you may do this every day, for families it is all new and pretty traumatic. Present timely options and a three day departure planning and coordination list with workable steps to help structure the transition, and ensure that the family representative understands and supports the plan. For example, I was first told on the day of the planned transition that it was to occur, so I indicated concerns with inconsistent messaging from medical staff that my wife was not ready for the transition and that I would likely appeal the decision. The transition slipped two days. Then, on the day of the planned move, Mary handed me a slip of paper with a number to call the ambulance and informed me that Medicare would not cover the cost. When I pressed, it turned out that it was covered and would be handled by Kindred.
One other suggestion: Track response time to instances of INITIAL response time to any patient/rep pressing the nurse call button and track response CLOSE OUT time. These two metrics, alone, should improve care further.
Still, in all, an excellent experience.
