meredith miller Chrystal went to art school with a concentration in painting, and with that background, she brings her trained eye as a colorist. After meeting for a complimentary consultation, she blended my grey (which I embrace and want to keep) with my darker hair color to help soften the transition. It lifted my spirits. Besides being great at her craft, I love that she lets me close my eyes and completely zone out while she focuses on my hair. It’s a rare and relaxing escape. Her space is in a peaceful private room in a shared modern and minimalist salon. I highly recommend Chrystal!

Emily McCullough Chrystal is an amazing stylist and artist! I was referred to her when my stylist retired and I am so happy that I found her. Her eye for color is spot on and Im so happy with the modern and stylish way shes done my color. She listens to me about what I envision for my hair and also helps me see the possibilities of how to change things up to keep it fun and interesting. Shes also great at cutting my curly hair and working with the natural curl that I have. I highly recommend Chrystal!

Jordan Hunter Chrystal makes you look and feel amazing when you leave! She really can transform your hair into exactly what you want! You can tell she understands the science behind coloring, styling and processing hair without damaging your hair (lightening/ bleaching). It makes you feel very comfortable and excited for the work she can do! I trust her entirely with my hair. I get Balayage Blonde and it is stunning every time!

Amanda Schaefer Chrystal was so awesome! Not only did she revamp my nasty old hair and make me feel amazing about myself, but she was also extremely personable! My experience with her was great, and I will only let her touch my hair now! 10/10 would highly recommend!!

Kelly Broussard Chrystal is very professional and kind. She is great at helping decide on the details of a haircut idea and listens to her clients. I have only had cuts and no coloring, but with cuts she has been great at not making me feel rushed even if she is busy. I appreciate that she likes to look at your hair dry before beginning to get a good sense of your hair texture and your goals. Some stylists just start off by washing your hair and dont really know what your hair looks like naturally. Even better, she is just a really sweet and friendly person!

It took a lot for me to spend this kind of money the first time but after getting my hair cut by her it was the easiest decision in the world to do it again. Akiko 5/5 recommend. Haircuts have been a source of stress having dual textured hair (wavy in most, straight in certain areas, temperamental natural textures!). I just got my hair cut by Ruby who loves natural textures, and I felt extremely seen and validated and listened to as I was explaining my "hair spiel". Ruby clearly has a lot of experience working with wavy/curly textures, and I was confident in her work before/during/after my cut. On top of having great skill, I loved the shampoo and Rubys personality. Personally, time flew by super fast, and I really enjoyed my time. After living in Austin over a decade, I think I finally found my go-to haircut specialist, and I am very excited. And while not hair related, there is free street parking, youre walking distance from Lazarus if you want to eat something before or after, and they have free coffee/tea/water while you are there!

Diana Guerra Having Ruby fix my haircut (from another stylist from another salon) was great! She was very professional. Sat down with me and talked me through everything she was doing. It was my first time in to get a curly cut and she took such time and care to listen to my concerns and desires and walk me through every option available so I knew what to expect around every corner. She also explained how I can replicate styling specifically on myself, and created a game plan for future maintenance and possible new styles. The atmosphere is nice, and all 3 ladies make you feel so comfortable. They work great as a team and are friendly. I asked for golden highlights not knowing what I was going to look like. Norma aims for 100%+ satisfaction and was wonderful addressing my request to tone down the highlights. Another plus is that Norma puts highlights under your hair. Paul Delacruz August 2024 Hair House is the coolest salon in Austin where has excellent stylists and great service. I returned to have Tyler to give me a complete makeover and did a fantastic job. He is truly a master pro hair stylist and makes sure you have a wonderful experience. The salon in in a bungalow house decorated in that Keep Austin Weird vibe. Parking has never been an issue where alway find a street parking spot and use the Park ATX app. I recommend calling to see if any or your favorite stylists has an opening. September 2023 I needed to cancel an appointment with Chelsea where conflicted with an upcoming spontaneous vacation trip so I called to do so. While on the phone I asked if there was an opening not just with her but anyone else and they had a slot opening with Andrew. He was a cool a cool guy who knew his stuff and asked him to go shorter than my last visit. He did an excellent job and showed me show to maintain my new look. He was easily to talk with and and had a great experience. He says best to call for appointments versus relying on the online reservation system. Like always if you drive here recommend using the Park ATX app to park along the street. June 2023 13 months later and my hair had really grown super long but did get shortened slightly a few months ago. As Tyler been having an extraordinary year in his private life so has his business. I keep trying but his schedule seemed impossible to get in so I decided to try someone else. I love Hair House with its eccentric hip atmosphere and his staff are so nice and friendly. Its an experience I have not found anywhere else. So, I had booked Chelsea to give me a new makeover. She was very professional and gave me suggestions and off she went first washing my filthy hair and then cutting away. I was sad to see my long hair get cut, but she assured me I will still have lots of hair and look really nice. She was friendly chat with and we both go to know each other. With all said and done I was very happy with the results where she is an excellent job. I went ahead and booked another appointment with her in a few months.

He is so personable, and his undeniable talent and passion for hair makes it impossible to not want to return back to him! I have gotten my hair cut, styled, AND colored by him a few times now, and hes done a phenomenal job each time. Even when I move out of Austin in a few months, I plan to make the long drive to continue getting my hair done by him. I can promise you wont regret seeing him! ❤️

Finding a new stylist is always incredibly nerve wracking and a lot of wasted time & money. Not in this case. I’ve never left a salon feeling 100% satisfied. Kylee Mikel Barnard Liv is an INCREDIBLE hair stylist and person! She made my dark cherry red dreams come true. This was my first time coloring all of my hair and she walked me through cost, maintenance, and up-keep! Genuinely so grateful for her craft and attention to detail. Also, Cece does a great blow out! My hair is curly and that girl was using the round brush like a wand. Highly recommend this salon! They are very eco-conscious which I also love.

Elizabeth Banicki Emily who did my hair and Liv who did my daughter’s were both just fantastic. Emily listened to me and asked many questions so that she could gain a holistic idea of what I wanted. She was kind and attentive, and did a beautiful job on my hair. I am super happy. As is my daughter who could not stop talking about how much she loved the way Liv styled her hair, how helpful she was in teaching her how to style her hair herself, and just how generally “cool” she is haha We are very happy and will definitely be returning!

Moe Shahid My haircut and color appointment today was very pleasant and relaxing. Mallory, my stylist, is quite knowledgeable, very patient and a caring professional. She explained each process before those steps, no surprises. Adding to that, Salon’s modern yet minimalistic furniture, inviting atmosphere - both are refreshing. My pleasant experience began with their online booking system - it’s elegant, quite easy to navigate, font and color schemes are well suited for the Salon’s inviting atmosphere. Salon Vega is a must try for all Ausinians!

Ashley McCarthy I was highly dissatisfied with my recent visit to this salon. While the salon itself is beautiful with a great selection of products, the quality of the haircut and the skill level of the stylist did not live up to the price or expectations. I visited on 2/21/25, shortly after they had been featured on a local news station, and had high hopes. I clearly explained that my hair is wavy/curly and that I prefer long, shaggy layers. Unfortunately, my stylist didn’t seem to consider my hair texture at all. She immediately chopped my bangs in a way that felt very harsh. I allowed her to continue, hoping the final result would blend, but it didnt. Instead, I was left with a jagged, unblended cut and a complete lack of shape. In the end, I told her that my bangs were blunt and asked if she could feather them out. She responded by taking thinning scissors to my bangs making matters worse. I paid $94 for this poorly executed haircut and had to go elsewhere to get it fixed. If you have straight hair and prefer simple cuts, this salon may work for you, but I’d advise anyone else to look elsewhere. I would have preferred to speak with a manager directly, but I’m leaving this review in hopes of being reimbursed for such an unsatisfactory experience.

Amanda Lea First time at Garbo. Went in for a normal highlight. Jen recommended adding some lowlights in my hair to give it dimension. She said the lowlights would be subtle. Asked me what color I wanted my hair and I told her ‘buttery’ because I like the highlights a pale yellow gold. My natural color is like a dirty strawberry blonde. What I got was terrible in every way. First, she pulled way too much hair into the foils than a standard weave. I got stripes, especially obvious in my roots at the part. Second, the lowlights are not subtle. They are dark ash. They make my hair look gray and/or green, depending on the light. Totally different from my natural tone which is warm. Third, she put those ashy lowlights in only the front of my head. The ash sort of mixed into the strands around it such that the highlights next to them look cool and muddy. So the front of my hair is a different color than the back. Nothing blends. It’s a mess. I went home with my hair wet because my long, wavy, coarse hair is almost impossible to brush right after processing so I prefer to let it air dry to minimize the damage. After it air dried I took these pictures and texted them to her. She actually said she thought it looked ‘great’!! I couldn’t believe it. I have sensitivity issues with my scalp and she was very understanding and respectful of the situation which is why I’m giving the second star.

Gretchen Doyle I had a facial with Marina today and she was so very gentle, thorough, and listened attentively to my description of my skin care. It has been many years since I’ve gotten a facial and I only decided to get once because my husband got me a gift card for Garbo. After my lovely experience today, I will definitely be returning for more services in the future - and probably another facial! The facial started with a warm foot soak and massage and included arm, hand, shoulder, and neck massages, along with plenty of hot towels. It was all so relaxing. I definitely recommend Marina!

Kim Baker Huge salon with lots of available hairdressers. I love being able to book online without having to talk to a human. It makes things so convenient. The front desk greeted me and offered me a drink while we waited. And the owner walks around and makes sure everyone is comfortable! I was waiting on my daughter and she offered me a coffee. Jaden, our hairstylist, was prompt, easy to talk to, and so friendly. She found me a seat so I could sit next to my daughter and constantly held great conversation with my daughter. Overall, I love the whole customer experience!

I’ve been very self conscious about my super fine, thin hair and she was kind and gave me great tips to help with some of my problem areas! I’ll be back!
