I came to see Joe after many failed haircuts and hair color at other salons. Immediately it was evident to me that Joe was a master at his craft. I loved that he listened to my needs and desires and executed it beyond my expectations. Joe was also extremely knowledgeable and experienced! Amazing! I will returning to Petalos.

First and foremost, the haircut I received from Joe was hands down the best of my life. Joe, the incredibly skilled stylist, listened attentively to what I wanted. Not only did he execute my vision perfectly, but he also provided valuable suggestions that improved my overall look. I have been to 11–Different Hairstylists in the last 7-years (after my Hairstylists of 10 years moved away) and I never found anyone that could color / highlight / cut my hair as I wanted; UNTIL YESTERDAY!! Yesterday, was my first appointment with Joe Becerra at Petalos For Hair Salon in Brownsville, Texas!! First, the Salon is decorated so beautifully; they make you so comfortable and are so welcoming. The decor and furnishings are a mixture of items that make you just want to stay there in the whole vibe of it !! I met 2-Sisters, it was one of their birthdays, so, they were there getting their hair done, and, they had brought mimosas to celebrate, so, I had so much fun drinking a few mimosas with them and chatting. As the day went forward, I realized as clients came and left, that, Joe has a special connection with each of his clients; which, is a wonderful thing to see. I looked up the correct definition of this word: A Colorist. Definition is: A colorist has extensive knowledge of the technicalities of hair color, depth, and tone and works with a range of techniques, including permanent, semi-permanent, and highlighting. Good colorists are artists. JOE BECERRA IS AN ARTIST !! If, you need someone with the knowledge and talent to color and cut your hair as you want it, he’s the ONLY Choice. I watched him do 4-Haircuts, also, while I was there; Again, He is an Artist!! I can’t compliment him enough!! Thank You, Joe, for the wonderful color, highlights and cut, yesterday!! You are Awesome !!!

Ximena Del Monte I’ve been here multiple times and I always feel like their blowouts are average. But recently, every time I go my stylist doesn’t blow my hair out enough and leaves a lot of frizz because it is not fully dry. I had to tell her serveral times to properly blow dry it because it was still humid. My daughter and I both went for an appointment at 1 pm and I got tended to right away and it took my daughter 40 minutes to be seen. When I asked if this was normal, they said yes because the individual before me could have a lot of hair, slowing down the styling. Which I understand, but they did not give me a courtesy call at all before my appointment to let me know that my daughter’s stylist was running late. I needed curls for my daughter and they did a very poor job on her blow out and they STILL charged me full price for a 45 minute service and they only serviced her 20minutes. I have called multiple times to speak to a manager, in order to give them a chance to address the issues and they never gave me the time of day. It is over priced and their job is average or below average. Valerie is the only person I trust there.

Hieya Called and said they could fit me in, got there and waited 1 hour and 15 mins ( 5 people ahead of me). 2 Barbers, probably would have waited longer if I actually stayed because they had another customer. Perla Chavez My mother went to have her hair re-touched and requesting the color red, since the beginning she was told they did not have the color red but was told they would use a color close to it which was a hot pink. She did agree and hoped for the best. Three weeks into this hair dye her hair continues to leave the color on her clothes...very disappointing..do not recommend

Linda P Ive gone twice to this hair salon. They charge $18 for a simple trim. The first time the lady did a good job. However, the second time there was only another hairstylist available, but I decided to go through with the haircut since I had already been waiting for 2 hours. She took 15 minutes to trim my long bob. When I got home I noticed she missed several pieces of hair and they were sticking out beneath my bob. I also noticed she cut one side longer than the other. For the time I spent waiting and the price, this place is not worth it.

Briana Munoz So upsetting to see a business turn away a special needs client. They told my mom not to come back with my special needs sister because my mom told the hairstylist they didn’t cut her hair correctly. I am going to look for a different place that will hopefully be more professional & understanding for my sister’s hair. Edit: to add to my review.. now this salon is blaming my mom for their actions.. my mom has taken my sister to another salon where the stylist does cut my sisters hair good & has the patience to attend a special needs child & my mom. So the fact that you would try to blame my mom when my mom is the only one who speaks up for my sister. My sister isn’t able to speak & stand up for herself. If she doesn’t like the haircut it’s because when it’s cut incorrectly it’s very hairs to style. But okay, you want to blame my mom who has been taking care of my sister for all of my sister’s life and has never been kicked out of anywhere. It’s fine, God is the only one that can judge. If this is how you respond to a review instead of trying to fix the situation, then I have nothing more to say. Good luck to your business.

Veronica Garza Warning: DO NOT BUY A GIFT CARD from this place. Wow...okay I never leave reviews, but this experience warrants me speaking up. If you work there or own this business, I hope you take note and make some changes. I only went because I received a $80 gift card from my husband. I paid for a Shellac pedicure and the receptionist says it is $40 for the pedicure spa plus $15 more for shellac. I hand her my gift card. I step out to get cash from my car to tip the nail tech. I step back in the spa and ask the receptionist what my total was she said $57.00. I then asked her what the balance was on the gift card and she tells me the card only had $57.00 and she kept the gift card. I thought that is strange...so I call my husband and ask him how much he purchased the gift card for and he said $80. I go back in and advise the receptionist that the gift card had $80. She then tries to explain that the way their system is set up that there is no way of her knowing what the balance is on the gift card. I thought that was very weird. She then asked “how much did you say was in the gift card” and I said $80 she then hands me the gift card and says so then your balance is $23. I thought that was extremely shady. If she needed $23.I would of just given them to her. Extremely poor reflection on the spa and nail tech as well. By the way I do have to mention that Mona, the nail tech did an awesome job!

Clarissa Longoria Went to a lady named Brenda for highlights and wanted to darken my hair to my natural brunette color. Brenda did not listen to my request and insisted I get a balayage. I am now half blonde and have very heavy blonde highlights that do not blend with my natural color at all. Would not recommend if you want to go darker.

Elyy D Booked several appointments and got quoted a ridiculously high price. Nevertheless I was willing to pay, other treatments were pending quote so I left additional money plus deposits . The ladies that took care of us were rude and had ZERO patience. Makeup came out meh.... hairdo looked a tangled mess. I guess they were in a hurry. My total ended up being less than what I had prepaid and they wanted to keep the rest. Even though I had overpaid when I left the deposit. Had to ask for my refund and they wanted to credit me for future services. (Maybe if they had been nice about it, but the lady was very rude) Its a beautiful salon, but the service is not worth what they charge. Will prob not go there again because Im sad about the way they handled things.
