Costumes of the Americas Museum - Brownsville (TX)

4 /5 Ayde Huerta: I enjoyed looking at the costumes and thinking about what it was like at the time when the owners were wearing them. I spoke with the attendant and she mentioned how careful they have to be to keep these dresses and outfits from deteriorating. She mentioned the other countries and time periods they have in storage and how they rotate every so often. I plan to go back when those are displayed too. Its a small museum, but very interesting indeed.

5 /5 Bruce Blankley: This is a delightful and educational experience in The RGV. The exhibit rotates so there are probably three or four different exhibits every year. This exhibit featured clothes and costumes from the Estados en Mexico. The docent was very knowledgeable and was able to converse in English and Spanish.

4 /5 Philip Wilson: I visited today, August 24, 2023, to see the exhibit on Guatemalan textiles that is there from March 31 to August 31. I paid $4 for senior admission. There was no wait. I was the only visitor at the time. The attendant was helpful and answered all my questions. I was hoping to see more regions represented, but I understand the space is limited. I enjoyed seeing the plants and fountain on the patio.

5 /5 James: A wide variety of western hemisphere cultures represented by traditional clothing styles. I was surprised to see clothing from many of the Plains tribes represented as well as the South Eastern US. I was really expecting more local and central American cultures. The examples were beautiful and it was a real pleasure to explore with the kids as well as some US history lessons. Free with admission to the Childrens Museum and free every Sunday. Check it out.
