4 /5 M. J.: The Gruene Door is nestled in beautiful Gruene Lake Village, the restaurant is often praised for its refined New American cuisine, relaxed ambiance, and attentive service. That said, my visit didnt quite live up to the rave reviews.
The crab dip was overwhelmingly cheesy, too heavy for my taste. The fried spinach, a dish that other diners seem to love didn’t do it for me; it lacked the balance and flavor. The crab cakes were equally disappointing, bland and uninspired, lacking the depth one anticipates from such a staple.
Despite the elegant setting and positive buzz, the food didn’t hit the mark. Service was pleasant enough, but nothing remarkable. For a restaurant with such consistently high praise for both cuisine and service, this outing left me longing for more.
