5 /5 Aries: This camp site is absolutely a place where you can disconnect (partially). We’ve camped out here a few times and it has always been a great experience great camp sites and even has a shower(1) and a couple toilets for men and women(separately) Very quite, nice, and serene. Definitely a place to check out. Great trails and even a landing where you can watch the bats take off in the evening if you get there at the right time. (At dusk) You should also take the cave tour if you can make sure you reserve your spot in advance as there are only a limited spots available each tour. They only run a Saturdays. Enjoy your stay.

5 /5 Marie Hogan: Camped here (site 6, very sheltered, highly recommend for tent camping!) and had a great time. We were only able to stay for one night, but we did a couple of short hikes to the overlooks and did a cave tour. The hiking was so good, even the little we did! Would love to come back and do more. And the cave tour… awesome! We’ve done a bunch of caves but this one was a blast because there are no lights in the cave, you bring your own. And you can touch things! Ashley and Jacob gave an excellent and very fun tour. Did it with our nine year old and she did great. Great visitor’s center with an activity table with kids. Everyone we interacted with in the park was so nice and helpful. It’s also has a very small campground so it’s nice and quiet. Clean restrooms. Have to pack your trash out, which is part of the fun! Highly recommend the trip out! The drive is long but beautiful and the park is worth every mile.

5 /5 Tracy Torbett: WORTH THE DRIVE! *Make cave tour reservations well in advance!!* Regarding cave tour KNOW THESE AHEAD OF TIME….. NOT for the disabled. Not a commercialized cave with smooth paths- it’s all rocky and lots of climbing/maneuvering involved. Cave tour is 2.5-3 hours long and no bathroom at cave site (they make a last potty stop on drive out …bathrooms are nice and clean and there’s a shower available inside each) Only 10 people allowed per tour which is at 1:00 on Saturdays and don’t be late- they leave right at 1, putting everyone in a state park shuttle to the site. Bring a flashlight for tour. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and good shoes for climbing over rocks. Bring water-they don’t provide any on tour. Hopefully you’ll have park ranger Matt as your cave tour guide- he was informative, personable and fun. State park personnel were friendly and helpful. Headquarters had activities for children. Camp sites looked tidy. Stuart Bat Cave access is wheelchair friendly. (Aug 2023- very little bat activity due to heat and drought) Closest towns are 30 min drive either way and there is nothing between the park and towns except beautiful land. A great place to completely escape all things urban and truly unplug.

5 /5 Miranda West: We stayed here as a halfway point from Houston to Big Bend National Park and I would love to return to further explore the park. The camp grounds were clean, quiet and nicely spaced from other sites. They DO NOT offer trash services so be prepared to pack it out. Staff members were extremely welcoming. They do offer a cave tour but it is only on Saturdays by appointment only, so we did not partake. There is also another cave known for its bat colony during the right time of year. We did a few short hikes at sunset and it was beautiful and quiet.

King Ranch Museum - Kingsville

Julie Rich: Dont waste your money. Its a few vehicles and little else. $10/adult. The museum movie was broke so we couldnt get the story behind the ranch. We were in the museum less than 5 minutes. We asked for our money back as there was very little to see, especially with the movie not working. Very disappointed they didnt give us a refund considering the circumstances. Very poor customer service.

King Ranch Visitor Center - Kingsville

KEITH MINTON: We took the tour. Very nice guide and informative but really wasn’t what I expected. We drove around in a bus for an hr or so and got out once and drove by a lot of cows and horse. But didn’t really get to see the main house or any of the animals up close. Not really for young kids we took a couple and it was kind of over their head. It would have been nice to see some animals up close or see the main house except for driving by it slowly. Also I envisioned the whole ranch as a more high end operation and it basically looked like any ranch out there. Worth going to once to learn about the history but I wouldn’t go back.

Colorado Bend State Park - Bend

marc benefield: Colorado Bend State Park is an absolute gem in the Texas Hill Country! My recent hike from the Gorman Falls parking lot was unforgettable. While Gorman Falls itself was neat with its cascading beauty, I was blown away by the mouth of Gorman Spring—so refreshing and cool, it felt like a hidden oasis. The Slide Overlook stole the show with its jaw-dropping views of the rugged landscape, perfect for soaking in the vastness of the park. Covering about 9 miles in 3 hours, the trails were challenging but rewarding, with rocky paths and stunning scenery. Highly recommend exploring beyond the falls to the spring and overlook for a truly epic experience. Bring water, sturdy shoes, and a camera—this park is a must-visit for any nature lover!

Valley of the Caddo Museum & Cultural Center - Paris

Neighbors MA “TexasGardenGal”: Very nice displays. Had a robotic dinosaur head with sound! Kids loved it. Had Train portraitures, and the artist, Yoko Mazza, was present, and train photos by Steve Crise were all very nice. Also had free photo taken. Was a minature of the city of Paris with an electric train running around it! Go see the exhibits, take the kids!

Fort Leaton State Historic Site - Presidio

Jeremy Jones: This is a really cool part of history and well kept by the staff. The staff is wonderful about teaching people the history of the place. We recently had a moment to check it out, and our group of four, including two children, really enjoyed it .

Big Bend Ranch State Park - Terlingua

Kathleen M: Big Bend Ranch State Park, a rugged 300,000-acre expanse in west Texas, is a wild, beautiful escape. We camped at Upper Madera Campground with our three kids and our dog. The drive along FM 170—River Road—wowed us with canyon views, and Upper Madera offered solitude and stunning vistas. The site had a covered picnic table for shade, a fire pit that kept us cozy at night, and a clean pit toilet, but no water—pack plenty, especially with kids. The starry skies, thanks to its Dark Sky status, were unreal. Five stars for the untouched beauty and dusty, fire-lit family adventure it gave us.

Ashley Ridge: Everyone should visit this place and read everything. Its a beautiful and emotional memorial. The Paris Texas Eiffel Tower with the Cowboy Hat is awesome, too. There is no wait, and you do not have to pay to go in, but they do have a box where you can donate.

Bywaters Park - Paris

Brittany Austin: There were such pretty Christmas lights up here. The entire square area was done up with different characters also.

Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic Site - Paris

Alesia Hoyle: The house is listed on the Register of Historic Places for its architectural significance. Built in 1868, the house belonged to Sam Bell Maxey and his wife. Most of the furniture and other household artifacts are original to the house! Tours are available for $5. It is well worth the visit! This house was the first in Paris to have an indoor bathroom! It narrowly escaped the path of the last major fire that engulfed and destroyed downtown, making it a sort of period time capsule.
