Gruene Historic District - New Braunfels (TX)

5 /5 Tamara Schwarting: Gruene Historic District is an absolute gem! This charming little town is full of character, with quaint shops, rich Texas history, and a laid-back vibe that makes for a perfect day trip. A highlight is Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas — it’s not just historic, it’s legendary, having played a key role in launching George Strait’s career. There are plenty of great food options throughout the district, and we chose to dine at the Grist Mill Restaurant, which was lovely — delicious food with a beautiful setting. We also stumbled upon the cutest putt-putt course we’ve ever seen, adding a fun and unexpected twist to our visit. Whether you’re into music, history, food, or shopping, Gruene has something special to offer. Don’t miss this unique and vibrant spot — it’s truly a Texas treasure.

5 /5 Judith Schell: I loved the entire historic area in Groene, Texas! Its better in the cooler time of the year, though. It was sweltering hot in May! We will happily go back in the fall season.

5 /5 Gabriel Ramos Sr.: Has grown over the years! Many shops but parking has always been an issue. Bring water if walking thru the day. I liked the evening atmosphere. Wine tasting available at various wineries. Gristmill restaurant does not disappoint. Swimming/ tubing available.

5 /5 Kelly Lee: Awesome little village between Austin and San Antonio. Spent a couple hours shopping and walking around. No restrooms, unfortunately, but parkings free and plentiful. Tons of cool antique shops. Everyone was super nice, too.

5 /5 James Mikkelson: Nice place to go to listen to country music and drink beer, or tube down the river. Beyond that, there isnt much to do. If you go on a sinner weekend, there will be long waits in the small handful of restaurants in town. Some trails nearby with quiet river walks, but you need to drive to get to them.
