4 /5 Dan Scott: Complex operation with bilateral total knee replacement. First incident occurred during initial stage of second knee. Saw broke. Protocol kicked in immediately and handled everything smoothly, but time was extended by 2 hours. Second and third incident occurred because of way the staff managed urination/bowel movements. They placed a commode chair, with bucket removed, above toilet to lessen distance to the seat. Unfortunately they used an extremely small commode chair that made it impossible for me to void bladder or bowels. Subsequently I had to be catheterized twice, a very painful procedure. Final incidents were food service failures. My orthopedic surgeon had stressed the need for high fiber / low bread diet to minimize constipation. Despite repeatedly expressing this concern, it wasn’t until I refused “regular diet” meals delivered to me that I was able to have this addressed. In general the hard working professionals at Seton are the best in the Austin metroplex. We simply are over stressing and overwhelming these dedicated people.
