  • Planet Fitness - San Antonio
Ava Gisvold: I have gone to this Planet Fitness for the past 3 years. The last couple days they have renovated/removed a lot of the machines. The best ab workout machine is gone. The inner thigh/butt has been made into ONE machine. Everyone is lining up to use it. Overall a horrible remodel. Yes, you added free bars but also got rid of everything else. Will be switching to Golds or LA fitness, as they provide still better free weight systems while still having equal machine access Photos of what are gone…
Starting Strength San Antonio - San Antonio
Sadhish Vijaya Balan: This place is awesome! It’s my second week and I train in Austin but had to travel for work to San Antonio. My coach arrange for me to drop in to Starting Strength in San Antonio. Matt Herbert coached me and it was great. I’ve never lifting weights but this guys make it easy. As they always say, all I’ve got to do is show up, eat and sleep well and they will take care of the rest. Anyone, if you are thinking and wanting to be stronger, don’t wait. I hate exercise and am super unfit but I enjoy it and it’s making me so much healthier. And it’s at a price much much lower than other forms of personal training. I looked at 5,6 places before I found this one. Highly highly recommended!!
Golds Gym San Antonio Babcock - San Antonio
carlos gutierrez: I signed up on May 19, 2025, paying a $10 sign-up fee and then $32 a month. Since I was only staying temporarily in San Antonio, I planned to use it for two months and then cancel. What they never told me at sign-up is that there’s also a hidden annual fee of $60 If I had known about that, I would never have joined. The main reason I signed up was because I thought it was a short-term, affordable option. On July 24, I called to cancel and was assured over the phone that I would not be charged again. Later I discovered they had a 30-day notice policy, which nobody mentioned to me. Despite not using the gym since July and no longer even being in the country, they still charged me another $32. So far, I’ve wasted over $150 on a service I did not use. The biggest issue here is the lack of transparency and terrible communication—from hidden annual fees, to misinformation on the phone, to surprise charges. I strongly recommend that anyone considering Gold’s Gym be very cautious. Their policies are not clearly explained, and once they charge you, it’s nearly impossible to get your money back.
    Muscle Warehouse - San Antonio
Job Darpolor: Trained at Muscle Warehouse for the first time this weekend and was really impressed. The owners were welcoming, and you can tell they care about building a real community around training. Great equipment and great energy. Definitely a spot where serious lifters can thrive while still being a friendly environment. This is a gym worth visiting if you’re in San Antonio.
Total Body Training - San Antonio
Marjesca: I feel so lucky to have an amazing fitness studio like Total Body Training in San Antonio! First of all, Ive gotten faster results at this gym than Ive ever gotten before because of the unique training program, and I also feel more comfortable here than I have at other gyms b/c of the really welcoming and warm environment. The program is great b/c even though its a group class, each person is working at their own pace. At the beginning of each class, you pick up a tablet that has an app on it that you log into and it walks you through that days workout. The coach is also there and theyre too checking on everyone, correcting form, answering questions, motivating you, etc. Depending on your fitness level or certain areas you want to focus on, this is all customized to meet you where youre at. The workouts are on 6-week cycles so at the beginning you start with lighter weights and less sets to get comfortable with the exercises, then you build up to heavier weights and more sets over 5 weeks, then your last week is a recovery week where weights/sets decrease again. I love how this cycle makes it feel like youre always learning and growing without getting bored. Definitely a total body workout! And it never feels like any pressure to perform which is refreshing at a gym. The gym environment itself is amazing. The owner, Jean Carlos, has done a recent remodel and the look and feel of the place is totally unique. The lighting is soft with patio string lights (so much better than fluorescent!), theres cool industrial art on the walls mixed with a relaxed nature vibe too, and even though it feels chill, the music is loud, which is great! Overall, the aesthetic really makes it feel like a special place and you know that the owner cares a lot about creating the best experience he can for his clients. One thing to know is that this gyms focus is on strength training. Theres no cardio, HIITs, or bootcamp type of stuff. I really appreciate not having to do burpees or feeling like Im going to pass out like I did at other small group classes. If you want to firm up, learn proper technique, get some high quality fitness training while being supported by attentive, thoughtful, authentic coaches, this is definitely a place you should check out. You can take one class for free and theres no hard sell. Thats what I did after scoping the gym out on Instagram for a few months until I finally called. Such a great decision! You wont regret it.
Heavy Metal Fitness - San Antonio
Iva Liou: Got to train here while I was in town. The facility is amazing and had everything I needed for my strongman and powerlifting training! The owners were so welcoming and the members were very friendly! Wonderful community I look forward to training there the next time I visit San Antonio!
    LA Fitness - San Antonio
Papi Chulo: I’ve been coming to this LA Fitness for over a year and it used to be spotless. Clean locker rooms, fresh eucalyptus scent in the sauna, and a well-maintained facility. Unfortunately, that’s not the case anymore. The gym now constantly smells like body odor, the barbells in the back have a moldy smell, and the men’s shower curtains are visibly molded. Worst of all, the indoor pool is always green. That’s not just unpleasant, it’s unsanitary. C’mon LA Fitness, you used to take pride in this place. Don’t get too comfortable, it’s time to step it back up.
River City Strength - Castle Hills
Anahí González: I recently joined RCS about 3 weeks ago and have thoroughly enjoyed the process. From the moment I decided to reach out about joining I felt encouraged, supported and held accountable--in all the right ways. Coach Jesse wasted no time in getting me scheduled for an FMS assessment to better inform them on the best course of action for my training sessions. The whole RCS team is extremely knowledgeable and skilled in their craft. You can tell that hospitality is at the forefront of all they do. Theyve created an environment where people from all walks of life are welcomed and they are met where they are in their health and wellness journey. I especially appreciate the check in I had with Coach Marco, a quick 15 minute phone call to see how Im feeling about my current training program and get more details about my personal goals. I was pleased that the conversation never focused on a number on the scale or physical appearances. Rather, we spoke about what my personal success indicators are and how best the RCS team can support me so that I meet my goals. I also greatly value being able to show up for my sessions and not having to fight over a spot to workout, think about what equipment Ill need and feeling unsure if Im doing each exercise movement correctly. The team is there every step of the way. From setting up my area with a mat and foam roller to bringing me the equipment Ill need throughout the workout and demonstrating each movement. They take extra precautions to address any pains or discomforts and are great at modifying the exercises to ensure they are painless. If you have ever wanted to find a community that encourages you to move in ways that bring you joy and celebrates your successes this is it.

    Performance Powerlifting - Johnson City
John Bendfeldt: One of the best programs around. A great place to build strength, make friends and learn proper lifting techniques.
