1 /5 Kentasha McMorris: Discriminatory Environment for Black Women
I am writing this review after multiple extremely uncomfortable visits (the last 2-3 times) to this specific TJ Maxx location. As a Black woman living in the area, the experience has been nothing short of hostile and discriminatory.
Shopping here has become a deeply triggering and distressing event. I suffer from severe anxiety, and it takes considerable mental effort to work up the nerves to simply come out in public. The staff and management at this store make that effort worthless.
During my visits, I have been aimlessly followed around the store and continuously stared at by multiple employees. This practice is not only exhausting and insulting, but it signals that I am being treated like a suspected criminal just for being a Black woman shopping in my own neighborhood.
The anxiety and stress caused by being profiled and treated in this manner has actively triggered my vertigo and severe panic attacks while in store . I am simply trying to shop normally, and instead, I am met with a hostile and unsafe environment.
Shame on the management and staff for creating and maintaining this actively hostile atmosphere for Black women. I know for a fact I am not the only one experiencing this, as there are multiple threads in our local HOA groups discussing identical experiences, all shared by Black women. Address your discriminatory practices, hold your staff accountable, and provide proper training. I will not be returning until this culture changes.
