Blanco Shoals Natural Area - San Marcos

Morghan Townsend: I liked this place, but I can’t really explain why. It’s so random. The parking was hard to find. There weren’t really trails, just some tire tracks people followed. It seemed like only the Texas State students that live in the apartments right by it visit this place. There was litter all over the place. But it was wild and green! We took our dog, and it was pretty much free range for large dogs. All of them were off leash- which I love

Spring Lake Natural Area - San Marcos

Josh Kreider: These are some really cool trails. Highly recommend, its a little over 4 miles long but its an easy hike. Lots of side trails not marked as official paths. So pay attention if you are trying to keep it short and sweet.

Five Mile Dam Park - San Marcos

W Linda (CollectingwithLinda): I arrived at the tail end of a race but still found a place to park. I walked down to the old dam and enjoyed the dry creek bed and wide variety of flowers and plants. There were some awesome harvester ant colonies too.

City Park - San Marcos

Samuel Sowell: Such a great place to visit with walking trails, great access to the river, play grounds for the kids. You can rent tubes, and float the river. There is even a bus to bring you back, really something for everyone. Pet friendly as well!!

Coleman Park - Athens

Nathan Flory: Very well kept fields! Great atmosphere for little league baseball. Like how the focus is on the fields and not fancy expensive buildings or sound systems. Perfect

East Texas Arboretum - Athens

Rachel Paredes: We absolutely loved coming here on our camping trip. Our favorite parts were the old home, the Veterans Memorial, and a walk in the woods. Staff were super friendly and offered suggestions.
