5 /5 Greg: Me and my wife had our wedding at the rec. center in Brownwood Lake State Park. The experience was very good, so I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a venue location.
The rec center has very appealing architecture which looks great on photos. Natural lighting is phenomenal - provided the sun is out of course. Hardwood floors and exposed roof rafters give the interior a "medieval castle" feel.
There are two adjoining rooms and a kitchenette. The main room has a beautiful fireplace and can hold six 6 foot round tables for an event. The adjoining room - although not as decorative, is slightly bigger. We used it as a dance floor and for the cake cutting ceremony.
The kitchenette is functional. There is a great big refrigerator which can hold some big cakes! Our cake was fairly modest and had no trouble fitting. The stove is a regular household item - nothing to write home about. The bar also leaves a bit to be desired, but otherwise everything went as planned.
We planned to have the wedding ceremony in the outdoor area behind the rec. center. We did manage to do this, but I would recommend this as a good option. It was too windy, uncomfortably warm and too sunny, despite this being the end of October. If youre planning a wedding I would advise against using the outside area since you just cant predict the weather on the day of...
All being said, this was a great experience and great memories. Highly recommended.
