5 /5 Cherry Williams: Agree with an earlier poster’s comment. This was a “God thing.”
I was driving from near Waco to the Metroplex. My battery light had come on, but there had been nowhere to get help. As I came across the bridge west of the railroad, entering town, my car began to sputter and lose power. I thought, “The first driveway I can get into, I must pull in.”
Hill County Car Care was it! Relieved—until I saw the sign, “Closed Saturday and Sunday.”
I called my husband, and settled myself to wait. It was too hot to stay in the car. I knew I driven as far as possible, since the engine had died part way up the driveway. So, I went and stood near the fence where I was in shade and there was breeze.
Then…. A nice looking young man pulled his truck in nearby. He got out and asked if I needed help. I explained my situation and he said, I probably can fix it—if you want me to.” I then said, “Do you work here?” He explained that, yes, it was his place of business and that he’d been glad to get me on the road.
He charged the battery—but it became apparent that the car needed a new alternator. He said he’d see if he could get the right one locally. He located the one needed.
My husband arrived about that time. We all agreed that it would be best to have my rescuer go ahead and replace the alternator.
We went to find food while he did so. When we got back—having been gone about 30 minutes, the alternator was in place and the car was running like magic!
But, it wasn’t magic. It was a blessing that only God could have arranged. We paid the price asked—exactly what we would have been charged had we been his neighbors.
When I said that I believed that God had given me a safe place to stop and get help, he said he felt that, too. He was right at the right place—his closed for the weekend business—at just the right time.
I was, and am, grateful for his willingness to listen to conscience, and to help an elderly woman who was all alone and stranded.
Now feeling blessed.
