1 /5 Rylee Kunkel: I took my 17 year old daughter for a 3 month followup for her medication. This woman walked in and without even greeting us scolded my daughter for having her mask not pulled up high enough. While we’re were in the common areas, both my daughter and I had nose and mouth fully covered. While in the private room with the door closed, my daughter had adjusted her mask momentarily but still covering mouth and nostrils. Dr. Castillo lectured her saying, “no matter where you are in this building you’ll keep your mask fully up. There are pregnant people walking around here and you’re breathing everywhere.” Shocked, my daughter and I just looked at each other. She quickly reviewed the medication questions. My daughter was so embarrassed by the scolding she didn’t even feel comfortable answering her questions but stammered through it. My daughter then tried to tell her that she is waiting on test results from her primary care doctor, due to having health issues the past month. As soon as my daughter said one of those tests we were waiting on was a mono test, the doctor interrupted and said, “oh, and you’re in here breathing all over my things!” I cut in and explained that my daughter had been tested for Covid and many other things, including diabetes, leukemia, anemia etc. and was negative. I explained to her that her office policy would allow me to remove my mask because I’m fully vaccinated however, just weeks ago I had a horrible Covid case and by her own policy I could have exposed “all the pregnant people walking around here”. . Mono is not an airborne illness. Our main question to her was, would this medication she prescribed contribute to the symptoms my daughter has been having for a month that we were actively seeking answers to. She rudely dismissed the question and was completely preoccupied with a mask being 1 millimeter down the bridge if my daughters nose in a private room, with the door closed, before she even came in. She had no regard for the information that my daughter has had fatigue, pale skin, swollen lymph glands etc. for a month. No patient should ever be treated like this “doctor” treated my daughter. If she felt like the mask needed to be higher she could have politely asked for it to be adjusted. We were being compliant with office policy and didn’t deserve this treatment. We will be finding a new care provider. I wouldn’t recommend this rude, tactless, uncaring, provider to an enemy.
