1 /5 Michael Brown: Due to a lack of prior experience with hospitals and a general distrust of medical professionals, I was hesitant to seek care. However, the severity of my pain necessitated immediate attention. Following transport by the Marshall Fire Department, I encountered a less-than-satisfactory experience in the emergency room, marked by a lack of compassion from some staff. While one nurse provided excellent care, subsequent interactions were characterized by inattention and a disregard for my comfort. Despite my polite demeanor, even while in extreme pain, requests for basic assistance, such as using a bedpan, were met with significant delays. After receiving medication that impaired my cognitive function, I was discharged without a definitive diagnosis, despite the later discovery of a serious intestinal issue requiring further medical evaluation. The subsequent billing for this inadequate and insensitive treatment is deeply concerning and frankly, shameful.
