Stonehenge II at the Hill Country Arts Foundation
Rosa Carrillo: Stonehenge II – Kerrville, TX If you’re in the Texas Hill Country and looking for a quirky roadside attraction, Stonehenge II is worth a stop. It’s not an exact replica of the original Stonehenge in England—it’s about two-thirds the size and not astronomically aligned—but that’s part of its charm. Set in the open field of the Hill Country Arts Foundation, this quirky installation offers a peaceful, scenic spot to wander, snap some fun photos, and appreciate a bit of creative whimsy. There are also two Easter Island-style heads nearby, which add to the eclectic vibe. It’s free to visit, easy to access, and rarely crowded, making it a fun and unusual detour if you’re in the Kerrville or Ingram area. It’s especially great for families, road-trippers, or anyone with a love for roadside Americana. Pros: Free admission Unique photo ops Quick, fun stop on a road trip Beautiful surroundings, especially at sunset Cons: Theres not much to do beyond viewing the stones Limited signage or educational info Verdict: Stonehenge II is a playful tribute to ancient history with a Texas twist—don’t expect mystery or grandeur, but do expect a fun and memorable stop. Your Local Guide: Some beautiful art pieces here, but the ladies stand off to the side slowly following you around as if you’re trying to steal the $50-$1,400 paintings they sell here. We felt rushed and urged to get out.

TrishaAnn Ramey: Lovely walking park with exercise stations to work out different areas of the body. Peaceful, clean and well maintained. Chris Bloomfield: Great place to camp for up to 3 days. They want campers to setup near the shaded picnic tables away from the water (thats day use parking). The town is debating whether to keep the free camping or not, so clean up after yourself and dont run a generator late at night. Otherwise this great spot wont be around for future travelers. There is a unique playground, access to water and trashcans.

Amanda Mueller: Great park!!! Several different bird blinds in varied locations provide birders with a chance to see a great variety of birds. There is a beautiful river with boating/swimming/tubing opportunities. Lots and lots of trails for hiking and biking, a campground with adequate bath houses with flush toilets and warm showers. Best of all the park is an international dark sky location, so please keep in mind ALL exterior lighting on your RV is unwelcome. Use red light flashlights at night to preserve your (and others) night vision. The sky is amazing, deep and starry with Milky Way painted across it! Plan for several days to really see all the hiking this park has to offer. The turkey roost area is open only 10:00am-3:00pm October-March and has the nicest swimming areas. Although you can get in the river near the park entrance anytime if you need to cool off after a hot hike. It’s beautiful country, well worth a several day visit!

Aries: This camp site is absolutely a place where you can disconnect (partially). We’ve camped out here a few times and it has always been a great experience great camp sites and even has a shower(1) and a couple toilets for men and women(separately) Very quite, nice, and serene. Definitely a place to check out. Great trails and even a landing where you can watch the bats take off in the evening if you get there at the right time. (At dusk) You should also take the cave tour if you can make sure you reserve your spot in advance as there are only a limited spots available each tour. They only run a Saturdays. Enjoy your stay.

Eija Shanks: Absolutely amazing! Getting there from the highway takes about 45 minutes on a dirt road. Sites 6-8 may need 4x4/High clearance, so be prepared. No water or electricity at the campsites, so be prepared. The park staff is friendly and takes pride in the park. Make sure to pack out whatever you pack in. There are no dumpsters in the park. Absolutely peaceful and clean with an abundance of wildlife! Dark sky designation, limited availability of sites, and the quiet were the perfect place for a restorative weekend.
