Brown County Museum of History - Brownwood (TX)

5 /5 Brandy Bee Rose: This is my favorite place in all of Brownwood. It is the most underrated attraction we have - right in our own backyard. I’ve worked here and visited dozens of times, and I still never get tired of it. There’s always something new to learn or investigate about the fascinating story of the past. Brown County history is Texas History. It’s a progression through time from learning about the ancient ways of primitive peoples to the advances of medicine, agriculture, business, education, and more. There are specific exhibits to the county - featuring familiar local names and faces - but you’ll also see the impacts of war and technology that impacted the entire nation, and the world. The kids absolutely love it. In this day and age where every kid thing is brightly colored, they love to be able to see, touch, and experience real things. There is a lot of interactivity in the museum and they will leave wanting to come back for more. I encourage anyone to follow their Facebook and visit during their regular hours or during a special event. You WILL NOT be disappointed! They also have a $50 annual pass for families.

5 /5 Veronica Comoe: Wonderful hands on museum. Both adults & children would enjoy. Lots to see & read about the history of the place & staff was lovely. Our jail guide was so very sweet. I would highly recommend a visit.

5 /5 Tracy Torbett: Visited 3/8/25 and was delightfully surprised by this museum! We were greeted warmly upon entry by the bright young Mrs. Wheeler who also showed us around the jail at the end of our museum tour. The museum was immaculately clean and there were many hands on exhibits for children. The many donated and preserved items and structures like the log cabin and one room schoolhouse were impressive. We learned a lot about Brown county, the city of Brownwood and its past businesses and residents and found it all very interesting. Parking outside was street side and free of charge. The jail tour was fascinating and there were some fun photo op spots inside. Highly recommend visiting here if you get the chance!

4 /5 Nicole Palmer: Was Interesting to learn some old facts about the old prison. Museum is clean and organized, and easy to go through. Theres a lot of thing to look at.

5 /5 Michael ONeill: Cost my wife and I $9 buckaroos only. $4 for me (veteran) $5 for my sweetheart. Awesome staff, amazing selection of artifacts and historical memorabilia, and hardly cost anything at all to check out. The museum itself is self guided, the jail house is a guided tour. The lady was super nice and definitely knew her history of not only the jail house, but the Brownwood, TX area in general. This museum I highly recommend to check out if you are in Brownwood, TX and you have some time on your hands.
