Our Mother Of Sorrows Catholic Church - Burnet
Richard: In all my years this has got to be one of the most unique Catholic church’s I’ve attended. The building is small, maybe 24’ wide and 80’ long but it has a lot more character than most church buildings I’ve admired and attended. It’s very cozy, almost more like a grotto than a building. I’m told it was built in the 1940’s with thick stone walls, a high pitch roof (12:12?), expose wood rafters and beams. It’s a perfect example of a typical hill country building using the resources of the area. I’m surprised it doesn’t have some sort of a historical plaque on the front of the building detailing its history. All that I can say is it’s an amazing example of the simple style of craftsmanship of the period. I probably needed to go back because I was so impressed with this little church that I didn’t remember what the sermon was about.
