3 /5 Bob Reed: Every area that has Route 66 passing through it is a little different, and this is how it should be. This section seems to pass through what was downtown Amerillo in the 40s and 50s. Kind of what I spent my early years in up in up north. The buildings are all maintained as original, which is good to see. It has a very heavy concentration of bars and a few restaurants. It appears the area is self funding which is nice to see as the buildings can be maintained and not run down as some areas of Route 66 have. From what we could see, it is a safe area, and if you are looking for a drink, it could be a fun experience. Its definitely worth seeing. We did find the Tucumcari stretch of Route 66 to be more family-friendly. Naturally, every section is different, which is why seeing it all is worthwhile.
