El Capitan Restaurant & Lounge - Van Horn (TX)

5 /5 Jason McGee: This historical place is a sight to see! We only came here to try the restaurant but now we have to come back and spend the night in the hotel. From the moment we walked into the courtyard, we were amazed at the beauty. So we just had to sit outside. The food was good. My wife had the "Chipotle Raspberry Porkchop," and when I say it was delicious, I mean it was DELICIOUS! Wow, it was good. I had the "Pistachio Fried Steak." It was fried really good. However, I found the gravy too plain, so I added some hot sauce that my wife keeps in her purse. We hope to try some of the other items next time. Our servers were awesome. I heard theres another historic hotel built by the same guy in Marfa, Texas. Hmmm....

5 /5 Nick: El Capitan in Van Horn is an absolute gem. The hotel itself has a timeless, vintage Texas charm that sets the perfect backdrop for an incredible meal. The pecan-crusted salmon was outstanding — and I’m from Seattle, so that’s saying something! The brussel sprouts and asparagus, served with a rich buttery sauce, were the perfect sides. Don’t skip dessert — the homemade pecan pie is phenomenal. Pair it all with a glass of local Texas wine (surprisingly great!) and you’ve got one of the best dining experiences in West Texas.

4 /5 Cynthia Dunbar: The historic atmosphere is iconic and definitely worth experiencing. The staff of very friendly older ladies adds to the overall feeling of hospitality. The food was solid and flavorful, just not the most impressive part of the experience. If youre still trying to decide whether or not to take this short detour, do it. Its a memory worth making.

4 /5 Rashid Mannan: I stayed in Van Horn for one night on my way to Guadalupe National Park from Texas. The town didnt have a whole lot to offer, so I was pleased to discover this nice restaurant. I ordered the 10oz Ribeye steak, which was cooked to perfection, and served with a great-tasting side of mashed potatoes. For dessert, the waitress recommended the Pecan Bourbon Bread Pudding, so I just had to try it. It was very sweet and delicious. I really enjoyed my meal here and very glad to have found this restaurant in the middle of nowhere.
