SWEAT440 Fitness Highland - Austin
Jacus Hamilton: I stumbled across Sweat440 when I was taking advantage of a $5 promotion of ClassPass access. I found the classes challenging, but do-able; I liked that you could come in whenever, bang out a workout, and though you are working out alongside other attendees, you dont necessarily have to engage as much with them as you might have to in other class formats. The music is usually good and it is conveniently located. When I came in for my first class, the manager walked me through much of the first session, coaching me on my posture and technique, which is what I knew I needed a lot of help with. The coaching was appreciated, and for this reason, I decided to sign up for a membership. However, that manager left after a couple of months, and since then, management hasnt seemed very interested in being on the turf with us and assisting with form, unless it is someone that they are obviously buddy-buddy with, (or maybe wanted their phone number!) That is, until Lana started at the Highland studio. Lana has been the best trainer at this gym since I started almost two years ago. And there have been a LOT of them. Management has cycled in and out quickly in the past, which was tough on the trainers, who would end up throwing in the towel as well. But Lana has stuck around. She always has a smile on her face, and welcomes everyone warmly by name. She is on the turf whenever possible, helping every person out - the newbies and the vets - while cheering us on and encouraging us. She is there with a sani-towel as we finish our sets, or wiping the equipment down for us, before we can get to it ourselves! She has been great for her staff. Turnover seems lower, and the trainers are following her lead on the turf and assisting us wherever they can. In the past, the trainers could be stand-offish or seem disinterested and checked out. Her influence on the rest of the trainers is definitely showing lately. She knows us - she asks us about our fitness goals, but also knows about our lives, our backgrounds, our fears and our wins. She is great at getting people chatting with each other, too. A lot of us have been coming here for months and havent really spoken to one another, but that has changed. There is more of a "team" vibe now than there ever has been. She is also (seemingly) in the studio 7 days a week, and I recently found out she has even moved super close by, just to be present whenever she is needed. Anyway, I can be just as guilty as the next guy - only coming on here to leave reviews when something negative happens at a place of business - but I felt compelled to come on here and give a shout out to yall. Keep up the great work! Jacus

Luis Villanueva: NOT WORTH IT ANYMORE…. This use to be good 5 star gym even if it was packed but it was good. NOW it sucks ! More then half of the machines are broken if you had to wait back then when all the machines were working and the gym was packed, now you have to wait even longer. I really don’t know what happened with management here. Smith machine has been broken for almost 3 months now along with half of the cable machines. Good luck getting into doing cable flys because it will be a wait for sure. These are only some of the machines that are broken. Most of these over a month now. Seriously thinking of canceling.

Emelyn Vandenberg: Have been going to Fit austin consistently for months now, and can’t say enough good things about this place! The size of classes leaves room for the trainers to help you with your form and make sure you’re getting the most out of the classes. You get a full body workout in every time, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable (always willing to chat about your goals after class), and I’m feeling as strong as I’ve ever felt. The 45 minutes fly by. You won’t regret giving Fit Austin a try. :)
Lift ATX - Austin
Lift ATX
David: IYKYK. It’s the spot in Austin. Not your air-conditioned gold’s gym type experience. Half is outdoors, half is inside but *open-air* Love coming here to get my sweat on and get some vitamin D, and a tan simultaneously during my workout. (Shirts optional) Immediately improved my winter blues by getting to do this outside daily. I think this is its most unique quality of LiftATX. Fantastic pricing if you can get in at $50/mo. They also waived my initiation fee for military/first responder. Read about why the LiftATX community was started originally— on their website. Would much rather give my money to them than a corporation. Yes, it stays very busy due to the popularity of the place, especially at peak hours, but I’ve never been unable to find an open piece of equipment to complete my workout. If you don’t wanna use the outdoor equipment, then yeah it’s gonna be a lot harder to find an open spot so you may have to wait a few minutes for your turn.
East Austin Athletic Club - Austin
Harvey Smith: Great space for a gym. They could use a little bit more equipment but the classes are excellent. They could also use a bit more ventilation it gets quite hot in there so bring lots of water. they keep it open aired. Very friendly staff and helpful staff. It has just a great vibe for a gym. Also comes with a good recovery room like suanas and ice baths which is great. Also the app they have is very easy to use and well designed so easy to book sessions. I will be comming back

Stephanie Weitzel: The lady who answered the phone this morning was rude. I canceled my membership three months ago, and $63 was still deducted from my account today. I asked to speak with a manager, but she argued and was disrespectful. I repeatedly requested to speak with her manager. She placed me on hold for 40 minutes, then picked up the phone, stated I would not be refunded, and hung up. This company takes advantage of people and their money. I will never recommend this gym to anyone. I will be contacting my lawyer to resolve this matter.
Factory Gym - Buda
Gabriel Watson: Factory Gym ATX is a really solid gym with a badass vibe. The black and green theme looks great, especially at night with the lighting. The posing room and locker rooms are honestly the best parts because they are super clean, modern, and really well designed. The music, speakers, and overall atmosphere make it easy to stay focused during your workout. On the nitpicky side, for the price of about $90 per month plus a $130 enrollment fee, there are a few things that could be improved. Some machine cushions were ripped, a few attachments were old, and some of the benches were not the most comfortable. The AC also was not working very well when I went at night and the back area of the gym feels a little unfinished. Adding more mirrors or a proper wall in that section would help it match the rest of the space. Along with painting some of the racks to match with the green. None of these things are deal breakers though. I still got a great workout every time, and the equipment selection and overall environment make it worth checking out. With a bit more upkeep the gym could easily be perfect, but even as it is now, it is a great spot with a strong vibe. Highly recommend regardless, just wanted to be nit picky because id love to see this gym flourish.

Just Jayyy: They are cool here. Huge floor, super clean, sans weirdness, good equipment, good food all around, laundry too. Also a Jumpolinareum or sumpin. Bowling and coffee across the street. Allegedly some kind of co-work space called Dwell, but I havent checked it out- looks cool on-screen though. Supercool overnight guy, shouts to Bryan.
Travis County Strength - Austin
Julia Fortkort: I first became part of this community back in 2010, when Travis was leading classes at RedBlack Gym through Crossfit Central. When he launched Travis County Strength in 2013, I followed—and I’ve been a loyal member ever since. The programming and coaching here are truly exceptional. Classes are intentionally kept small, which means you get personalized attention when you need it. I’ve tried countless gyms and personal trainers over the years, but nothing compares to the quality and care at TCS. The coaches are deeply committed to proper form and tailor movements to meet you where you are—whether youre just starting out or youre a seasoned athlete. As someone who’s had a love/hate relationship with working out, I need a space that keeps me accountable and consistent. TCS does exactly that. The community is warm, supportive, and genuinely uplifting. It’s the only gym where I feel I’m consistently getting the most out of every workout. If you’re searching for a place to train, I can’t recommend Travis County Strength enough. Try a class—you’ll see what makes it special.
Golds Gym Austin South Central - Austin
Golds Gym Austin South Central
Ethan Cordes: Probably the worst run gym I’ve ever been to. I am not exaggerating when I say these pics were all taken on the same day. I ended up walking around seeing how many out of order signs I could find like it was an Easter egg hunt. You can probably still go in there and the out of order signs will all still be there, no matter what date you are reading this. The WiFi is unusable. The sauna is broken half the time, the refuse to fix anything. Been here for a year and a half and I think it’s finally time to switch. I have asked them many times to fix stuff and this is where we are at now. I went to LA fitness down the road and it’s 10x better so now I will try to bring as many people from golds to LA with me before I cancel my membership out of spite. They either don’t have a manager or they are wildly overpaid because they are never there. Sauna is always broken and is never even very hot anymore, they never fix equipment when it breaks, hours could be better. One thing I will say though is that personal trainer Daniel is dope. They should give him a raise, because he is the only good thing about this place. Don’t go to this gym (unless you want a personal training session with Daniel).
