2 /5 Kaboochy: The recreation center itself is nice but my bad rating comes from the climbing wall. I felt unsafe and a lack of respect from the staff. Just because I informed them that I have a good amount of climbing experience and wanted to try and get belay certified, there was slight gossip between the staff as if I was being a “Karen”. Aside from a few nice belayers, the rest seemed judgmental and distracted while belaying. One of my belayers even fell over while lowering me. I almost got decked at one point because the top ropes don’t loop around the top, just pass over it, so there is less friction and the weight difference between belayers becomes more relevant. They make you clip in with two carabiners for safety, which feels safe at first, until they rotate and cross load while you climb if you are moving around with a good amount of slack. One of the staff even reported a spinning hold to another staff member, and he said that it’s wasn’t going to change the beta so it was ‘okay’. I have many other complaints but the main point is that these are fixable issues and not a matter of budget, just a matter of caring more. I know climbing is a dangerous activity, but indoor top roping should never have me this concerned. I recommend top rope climbing at a Movement gym or other local gyms in the DFW area such as Dynorock or Canyons.
