1 /5 Kelsey Reynolds: I dropped off clothes at Plato’s Closet two days ago to sell. I got distracted and didn’t make it back that day to pick up my remaining items—and received no text or call reminder like I’ve gotten in the past. The next day, I called the store and let them know what happened, and that I would come in on Saturday, 7/12 to pick everything up.
On my way there, I got into a car accident, which prevented me from making it. I arrived today, Sunday around 11:30am, and the manager handed me a receipt for $18.32 in store credit, telling me the rest of my items had already been donated.
I walked in to see a store associate literally hanging up my clothes to be sold—brand new, trendy pieces that were in perfect condition. These items were worth well over $200. It was surreal and insulting.
I calmly explained the situation to the manager and even offered to show proof of my car accident via police report. She had zero empathy, just repeated the policy.
To be clear: it seems they kept and are reselling all the cute, high-quality items and most likely “donated” the worn or lower-value stuff. The fact that I got no notice, no courtesy, and no accountability from staff—despite having communicated and had a real emergency—is beyond disappointing.
I asked for the owner’s information and was given a phone number. I plan to follow up. But walking into the store and seeing my personal, valuable items being tagged for resale was surreal and upsetting.
