1 /5 Rachael Roberts: Gracie’s has always been my first stop on the strand, but after today I will never step foot in this business again.
We are moms with kids. Not vandals. One of my friend’s children apparently spilled something prior to me going in. I went in, saw my friend’s child in the toy section, and told him not to touch anything else. Ind you, I saw nothing “spilled”. Out of nowhere, a woman comes at me demanding to know what I’m “doing about my child.” When I asked who she was, she ignored me, then snapped, “This child spilled something in the store, you need to take him out.” I told her he wasn’t my child, however, I was trying to make sure he was behaving. That’s when I said I was writing a review.
When she heard me tell another patron that I was going to write a review she approached me again. AGAIN I asked who she was. That’s when she said, “I’m the owner.”
If that’s how the owner treats paying customers… accusatory, condescending, and rude then this store doesn’t deserve my business or anyone else’s.
We don’t live on the island, but every trip to Galveston used to include Gracie’s as my first stop. Never again. If you’re so pressed about children being in your store, do us all a favor: put a sign on the door that says No Kids Allowed instead of ambushing mothers who chose to spend their money with you.
Galveston has too many shops that are warm, welcoming, and professional. This one is none of those things. Save yourself the attitude and shop literally anywhere else.
