5 /5 Bruce K.: I have of course heard of Sam Rayburn though his time in office was well before my time of paying attention to politics. Today, his name is associated with the Rayburn House Office Building, the congressional office building in Washington DC. Rayburn served as the 43rd Speaker of the House of Representatives, the record holder for the longest tenure in that role - 17 years (over three separate stints). He was the Representative from Texas 4th District from 1913 to 1961. The Rayburn House in Bonham is a collection of news articles, memorabilia and several videos that describe the life and times of Speaker Rayburn. His huge library is also accessible. It is self-directed and easy to tour. Expect it to take between 30 and 60 minutes.

It’s an incredibly informative and well-curated tribute to one of Texas most influential political leaders. The displays and historical recreations are top-notch—thoughtfully arranged and full of fascinating details that really bring Speaker Rayburn’s legacy to life. From his personal items to photographs and documents, every exhibit tells a piece of the story with clarity and respect. The staff were warm, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable. They answered questions with enthusiasm and added personal insights that enriched the experience even further. The museum is also very easy to get to, making it a perfect stop whether youre a local or just passing through. If you’re interested in American history, politics, or just enjoy a well-done museum, this one is absolutely worth your time. Highly recommended!

Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites - La Grange

Jamie Cicco: This state historical site is such a cool place. It features ruins of Kreische Brewery (and the still standing home) as well as Monument Hill a tomb for those who died in the Dawson Massacre of September 1842. There is a beautiful overlook, and the grounds themselves are very well maintained. Only $5 per person for admission and leashed dogs are welcome. The Visitor Center has a few displays of relics that you won’t want to miss! I do recommend wearing good shoes and carrying water if you are planning to walk down to the brewery. It’s a bit steep in some places!

Tony Tolic: My wife and I were amazed at all the history and stuff in this tiny place. Charlie did an amazing job answering our questions and giving us an awesome tour. Even though my 9 year grandson got figity, Charlie took it in stride and was very patient. Thank you for for this wealth of information!

Michael Miller: I had a really great visit this afternoon. There is a lot more to see than one might think when approaching from the outside. The house is beautiful and well-maintained. The other displays are interesting and very localized exhibits. My favorite part was the entire Rattlesnake Roundup.

Fort Bend Museum - Richmond

Nina: The museum is very informative and has hands on activities (the scavenger hunt you can get at the front desk). My little cousins had fun learning and doing the activities. Especially trying to lift the equivalent of a full bag of cotton and smelling the oil. Miss Megan was such a great tour guide. She made everything come to life. The way she explained and told the history was as if she lived in it or knew the families personally.

Britany Garza: What a beautiful park! The grounds are extremely well maintained, and theres so many areas to walk and explore. The bird watching area, wildflower areas, and the observation deck were our favorite discoveries today. The sounds of airplanes landing and taking off just across the way made us chuckle every time, but it really didnt take away from the nature experience. There are public restrooms and a handwashing stattiin available near the Observation Deck area that are well maintained. Well definitely be back to explore more soon!
