4 /5 Thomas Piland: The LaSalle Monument at Indianola is a significant statue marking the location or port that ships carrying Polish and German immigrants docked and unloaded the new soon to be citizens. Indianola was the second largest port of entry in Texas, after Galveston. However, Indianola was low lying town and later destroyed by a separate Category 4 Hurricane and a Category 3 that made landfall 11 years later.
Regarding the monument, I was disappointed that the Polish plaque didn’t mention the Polish towns such as Kosciusko or Panna Maria. The German heritage plaque was much more informative.
