4 /5 Taylor Horn: Beautiful park but could be so much more. Kinda sad that the city hasn’t kept up with it very much. The museum wasn’t open and doesn’t seem like it is very much. Also found the trail head and realized very quickly that it was overgrown and not walkable. We called the number that was listed on the website and the girl pretty much said “yeah there’s no longer trails”. Pretty sad because I heard there used to be great ones. Luckily as we were about to leave we noticed a car parked near the front entrance and what looked to be a trail. So we walked it and it was very lovely. Not sure if they are redoing the trail? Looked like lots of trees may have been cut down for it? The girl we spoke to obviously wasn’t sure but that’s okay. Nonetheless it was a very nice hike and I hope others find it before leaving. There’s so much history behind Jim Hogg and the park, they even have his cemetery there, so I hope one day it gets a little more of the love it deserves.

4 /5 Jeremiah Maldonado: Give me five stars except for theres no explanation to the nature preserve. I started a small path that Open up large enough to fit car through. Going signs to be observed on the beginning where it says no hunting, nature preserve. Ended up walking 5 miles out of the way you need to walk through town to get back to the park.

3 /5 Merideth Oliver: There is a replica of the birthplace of governor James Stephen Hogg as well as the cemetery where his parents and siblings were buried. I wish there was to see/ read. Which room was his boyhood room? How long did the family live here?

4 /5 Chuck and Wanda Anderson: The surrounding is peaceful. The picnic tables and other features could use refreshing...and the toilets updated fixtures. Didnt take the nature walk or use other buildings. We had a nice, quiet lunch with the dog so it was all ok.

3 /5 Cheri Morrell: It was a beautiful setting more interesting than I thought it would be. The museum was closed but I was able to look through most of the windows of the house and walked around and enjoyed the park setting.

Beverly Taylor: Great museum of local and regional history with really cool stuff in it including a near-complete Linotype Press system. The curator on duty was fantastic and gave me a detailed tour of some of their most interesting and unique items in the collection. They have some wonderful gems tucked away in that former post office, and there are some incredible stories and people in the histories of small towns. If youre into Texas, railroad, oil/mineral, or military history this museum is well worth a part of your afternoon.

Dinosaur Parade - Henrietta

KDG: We were in a seventeen hour long drive from Denver, Colorado to Quitman, Texas and this place was absolutely magical for our three year old. It’s free of charge. The dinosaurs are made of a rubber latex material that flexes so you can move the tails and arms a bit. Grab some gas. Get some food at Steak and Shake or Texas Best. Use the restroom at the Shell. But if you have toddlers, do yourself a favor and let them have some time with the dinosaurs.

Donny Hacker: Five stars for the mural on the back of the museum since it was closed the day I came by (they are closed on Sundays). The mural is very nice though :)

DA MAN: The absolute worst disc golf course Ive ever played on. Every basket is either immediately next to their disgusting river or downhill in trees. The only reason why I give an iota about this grassy crap hole is because my child had a good time, BEFORE he lost his favorite basketball in the river. Dont even consider visiting. 1/10

Erwin Park - McKinney

Dea Ptah: We went to this park to plan a group event. For early spring, we were not impressed with the closed restroom, stinky pond and negative vibrations. Absolutely do Not recommend this park to AfroAmericans or Black Folk. Many in the park, even for a Monday morning, exhibited racist tendency. Home schoolers walked past us close enough to touch us as if they didnt see us. Twice people brought hunting dogs into our space as if intimidating to release them on us. As we stood at the roadside talking, people in vehicles stopped to allow their dogs hang out the windows at us. An employee with the McKinney Parks and Rec arrived and seemed to be watching us as we prepared to leave. Leaving in multiple cars, we noticed residents living along the park road back to the city standing at their roadside mailboxes watching as we drove away. And lastly, as we returned back to the city street, a McKinney patrol car was stationed in the street on the opposite side... as if watching us leave the area. This is Not just my account, but that of the person I met at the park that day. Highly recommend AfroAmericans and Black Folk find something better, safer and more friendly than this park.
