1 /5 Aiyanna Lyn: This Halloween, I was given a goodie bag by the members of the church. I was so grateful until the first thing I see is a fake bill, a bookmark, and other cards with hurtful and demanding rhetoric.
Children of all backgrounds couldve been receiving these bags only to be greeted by the statements/questions of "Do you think youre going to heaven? Well if you lied, etc. then youre going to a terrible place called hell". I get the message trying to be conveyed, however, this was such a wrong way to go about it. Halloween is a time of expression and fun and these hurtful messages can influence people and their children to have negative outlooks on themselves and their lives. Im a Catholic, but I would never go out of my way to strike unnecessary fear in the youth.
As Christians we need to push out the message of love and respect for one another. This was truly disappointing and heartbreaking and I feel for the kids that are now living in fear due to these messages. Please reevaluate your approach, especially on holidays like this.
