J Kar: Ok so I haven’t gone but I just heard a YouTube message about sickness not always being natural and it being a spirit of infirmity/ a devil that may need to be cast out. I’ve been looking for a church that believes sickness can be supernatural when doctors can’t find because a lot of watered down churches will downplay or won’t believe it’s a demon. It looks like I will visit to see how far advanced they are in deliverance and if they do them for people that need it.

Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church - Houston
Dorcas Martin: I really like Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. I went to a Juneteenth 2025 Community Celebration, the worship, food and atmosphere was great. We enjoyed a very delicious meal, 3 pieces of Bar-B-Que Chicken, Sausage, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Coleslaw, Slice of Bread, Pickles, Onions, Jalapenos and for dessert Peach Cobbler, including an Ice Cold Tea. When we left from eating all guests received a $25 Gift Card from McDonalds, an Essential Bag and Blanket. Wheeler Baptist Church gives back to the community, it serves. My Bible says, the church should give something to the Widow and Orphan. I thank the church for a wonderful meal and I highly recommend Wheeler Baptist Church.

Amanda Gomez: Sometimes I have to remind myself how badly the poor are spoken to. I brought my Dad to a food distribution, we have been in the past but over 2 years ago. We lined up at 4 pm. Not once did anyone come outside to tell us what “line” to be in. Then allowed us to basically be passed up by everyone (and I think because of that we got freezer burned, meat that was torn open and exposed). When I mentioned this to Claudia who was giving us instructions, she basically humiliated me by stating “no matter what time you get here we open at 5:15-5:30”. Then proceeded to say it again in Spanish. All of this to help my Dad out. No basic respect for your time or human decency. Maybe next time they will send someone outside to make sure people are in the right line.

Timmothy: I visited this church for the 1pm Sunday service in search of a new church home but was disappointed by how my family and I were treated. Upon arrival, the first usher insisted that there was a place where we could leave our children. Once we entered the sanctuary and tried to find a seat, another usher stopped us and informed us that families with small children needed to sit in the back or in the rafters. Ive never been to a church where I couldnt sit where I pleased. The start of the service felt more like the start of an NBA game, with loud music and people running up on stage, jumping up and down. I have been in a Pentecostal church many times and know what loud is. This was beyond loud. Like going to Monster Jam loud. When the pastor began talking about the new building after worship and immediately brought up the offering, it felt like he was saying, "Look what G-d did; now its time to pay up and show how good He has been." Halfway through the offering talk, my spirit of discernment told me it was time to leave, and I took my family out. I definitely did not feel the presence of G-d or the anointing here. My family and I will definitely not be coming back.

N A: A welcoming church with a thriving student ministry. This church has a place for people of all ages and backgrounds. Student ministry worship is led by talented student musicians who take time out of their busy schedules to rehearse. HNW makes every effort to ensure all students have equal opportunity to participate in church sponsored events.

Jonathan Reichel: If youre coming to this church please check to see if there is an Astros game playing before you arrive because parking will be practically impossible! Amazingly beautiful cathedral. Went for the Latin Mass at 11:00 a.m. and it was my first Latin Mass. Also probably the longest one of the year at 2 and 1/2 hours. But thoroughly Reverend and liturgically eloquent.
