1 /5 Trey McGee: If you’re considering options for a private education, it’s worth considering as many reviews pointed out, that Calvary’s educational standards are lacking. History class often involves the teacher, Mr Stark, stating his opinions as fact in blatant contradiction with the textbook in front of him, it’s actually abysmal. Science classes will teach from a biblical perspective, and when that comes into conflict with the secular understanding of science, students will have some guy in his 60’s recite apologetics at them rather than a meaningful exploration of the scientific method, which hamstrings teaching the entire topic. They have no sports, science, technology, advanced mathematics, music, arts or vocational programs; the only career skill they teach is typing technique. For k-6 this environment may provide them a moral framework based in biblical literalism where possible, however it’s a known secret in the church community that older students who transfer after attending Calvary often find it hard to graduate from traditional schools and those who do graduate find it difficult to find admission to higher education. It’s concerning that none of the staff have no prior background or degree in education or child development and none of them see this as a problem; in fact most teachers at this school are foremost parents of students who are less concerned with the curriculum than conducting surveillance of children. While you may appreciate that students are kept on a short leash a this school it is at the expense of any actual socialization skills to the point that a grown adult will get on the phone and call you at work to come get your child or be threatened with expulsion over kids doing Fortnite dances. Seemingly the sole benefit of this school is its emphasis on biblical literacy - When you graduate, you will know most of the Bible as well as what opinions and interpretations you’re allowed to entertain, and how to type 94 WPM (which doesn’t look good on a resume anymore. No one is doing long form typing at work in 2024 except court stenographers but they have different keyboards and it’s an entirely different skill). The staff is woefully ill-equipped to run a school that seeks to turn out competent productive graduates. This school is terrible, the teachers are a bunch of wormy snowflakes that can’t handle their students, and the community is filled with vindictive underhanded self righteous losers.
