5 /5 Josh Kreider: I love this place, I grew up in bonham and the state park has been a big part of my life growing up. No I have a little one I want to see him enjoy this beautiful park. It is an incredibly clean park, even the water is clear. Waist deep you can see your feet! Thats rare for Texas lakes. I have known for a long time that there were hiking trails out there but I really had no idea how nice they were untill a birthday camping trip we took last weekend. Its not a very big lake at all. Its almost in the "big pond" category. So I never imagined that the hiking would be more than a beaten path to the water 10 from the little road that encompasses the lake. I was wrong because they are some of the best trails Ive been on. A little confusing download a hiking trail app. There are a lot of unmarked paths that are not shown on the parks office map. Getting lost is probably inevitable but no worries because the trails are long but only cause they meander around. You wont find yourself miles in the brush turned around in a tight spot. No dangerous getting lost scenarios. Camp sites are beautiful and kind of close but not so much that it takes the fun out of it. I will say it is a little on the, early to bed early to rise, mentality. My family likes staying up till midnight and sometimes later. We were constantly having to keep lights off and noise down so as not to disturb anyone. I know we did though, so if you are looking to hang out and meet fun young people. This isnt where to go. If you want a quiet friendly clean and restful weekend in nature this is the place for you.
