3 /5 Sarah Wu: We stopped by The Toasted Yolk for Sunday breakfast and were surprised to find it not too busy—likely thanks to summer break in this college town. The service was excellent from start to finish: friendly, fast, and welcoming.
Food-wise, it was a mixed bag. The churro cake donut was sweet and satisfying, a solid treat for a sweet tooth. The shrimp and grits—marked as a signature dish—lived up to the label. The grits were flavorful and cheesy, the shrimp plump and well-seasoned, and the large crispy chip added a nice texture. Unfortunately, the Southern Fried Arnold Benedict was a letdown. The muffin tasted store-bought, the chicken was overly breaded and bland, and the whole dish felt too heavy. The hashbrown casserole on the side didn’t help—soft, cheesy, and oddly sweet, it came off more like potato mac and cheese than hashbrowns. I even reached for the table hot sauce to cut through it, but the sauce tasted stale.(I checked the bottle tho it is not experied, so I dont know what happened)
Overall, while the service was truly top-notch, the food didn’t impress me enough to want to return.
