1 /5 Bonnie Grisham: I rarely leave reviews, but I believe it’s important to share my experience so others know what to expect, especially when it comes to cancellations.
I signed up at HOTWORX Sugar Land (River Park) in February and did not return after the first week. Recently, when I went in to cancel, I was met with resistance, misinformation, and ultimately, intimidation.
Despite fulfilling the six-month initial contract term, the front desk staff insisted that I could not cancel unless I paid a fee immediately. When I calmly explained that I couldn’t make a payment that day and requested to remove my payment methods, the staff member became flustered, retreated to a back room, and called the general manager and studio owner.
Instead of offering support or resolving the issue, they spoke with me over speakerphone in an aggressive manner, raising their voices and making me feel as though I was in the wrong for simply trying to cancel after meeting my contractual obligations. This behavior felt like bullying, plain and simple. The young employee seemed overwhelmed, and rather than stepping in to de-escalate the situation, the management team only escalated it, showing complete disregard for my concerns.
Ultimately, I had to escalate the matter in writing to be taken seriously. This experience highlighted a lack of professionalism, inadequate customer service training, and a disregard for consumer rights.
If you’re considering joining, I suggest reading the contract thoroughly and preparing yourself for potential challenges if you ever decide to cancel. I sincerely hope the owners take this feedback to heart, improve staff training, and treat members with the respect and dignity they deserve.
