5 /5 Leah Socorro Cayanan: St. Peter the Apostle Church holds a special place in my heart. In the past, our community used to come here during our Holy Week Visita Iglesia but we never got the chance to go inside the church. It was always close. So we would pray just outside the church.
In Feb 2020, we presented a digital catechesis program to some catechists of Laredo. St. Peter graciously offered to host the event. It was our first interaction with Patsy Morales, the director of the parish religious education program. Fast forward to today 8/26/2023. I returned here with much joy because they will be the first parish to implement the program in Laredo. This time I met not only the very committed Patsy but also her dedicated team of catechists- her husband Fernando, Judith, Mariana, Melissa and Sister Beth (who I met before today). I admire their spirit of service, working on Saturdays for the children of the parish when they should be resting.
Patsy, always the gracious host, brought me to the church. And there… two other servants were busy tidying up the altar (Teresa and Joel). I got introduced to Teresa and she gave me a huge smile beautiful as their altar. I noticed there was a tiny room at the back of the church. Peeking in, I saw all the saint statues gathered inside and I can’t help thinking how blessed I am to have the saints as friends I can dial for help.
I left St Peter Church today with joyful thanksgiving to God for finally seeing the insides of the church and most especially for the wonderful people I met and will be interacting more in the coming days.
