5 /5 LoneRanger: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience During Holy Week
I visited St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in San Antonio on Holy Wednesday for confessions, which were scheduled from 2 to 6 PM. When I arrived, I was blown away by how many people were there—hundreds, easily. I waited for an hour and a half, and despite the long wait, most of us didn’t get to see a priest for individual confession. It was packed beyond anything I expected.
But what happened next was one of the most beautiful and powerful moments I’ve ever experienced in my life.
Recognizing that so many of us were about to leave heartbroken, the priest came out and offered a general absolution to the entire crowd. We must’ve been over 200 people, and we were all absolved of our sins together. We prayed together, stood in silence together, and truly felt the presence of God together. It was reverent, intimate, and deeply moving—something I will never forget and may never experience again in this lifetime.
I want to thank the priest from the bottom of my heart. That moment meant so much to all of us, especially as this was our final chance to go to confession before receiving communion on Easter Sunday. It was an extraordinary gift of grace and mercy.
Thank you, Father. And thank you, God.
