1 /5 Michael Arney: I grew up in this church. My sister got pregnant as a teenager. These people wanted to use her and another girl as examples of what not to do. How arrogant. My father went and talked to the elders and they punished him by removing him from serving communion, could not teach Bible classes or even do the closing prayer and no way could they allow a man of his caller serve as a deacon. He was a devout humble man, when he passed away we requested to have funeral service at SRCC. They were hesitant but finally allowed it to take place , however it came at the price of watching people at the church look at us with disdain, like a bad smell was in the air. When you enter the worship area there is a brick column that was crafted from bricks of old building spliced into the new masonry. There is a plaque if I remember but no mention of the craftsman, my father who lovingly and at no charge crafted and created. They had no issue allowing him to do this but still treated him like a leper. I was asked to basically kept my opinions to myself when I called out a member for cherry picking scriptures to mash together to make a point when I attended once with my father. Dad later moved away and was welcomed into the Granbury C of C. He taught classes, served communion and helped build a house of worship in Mexico. Yes he told them of the past but unlike SRCC they deferred to God to pass judgement instead of the punishment he received at the hands of SRCC elders. Sanctimonious hypocrites. I have made my peace with God and we are good with each other, but never again will my shadow grace the threshold of this building again. Dont get me started on how they treated my mother because she had been previously married as a 14 year old to a man her family basically gave her to as a child.
