5 /5 Reagan Hughes: Please read this review if you are looking for a church. I looked for a church in the Brownsville area all the way to McAllen. I kept finding a repeating pattern: a medium to large church that was preaching happy generic messages filled with stories without really digging into the scriptures and the meaning and the truth behind them and how we can take action in our own lives, they always felt like a show rather than teaching. Out of 6-7 churches I went to (most non-denominational).
They offer child care as well, quick note that I wanted to mention.
River Church stood out to me in three important ways: 1. The community was small, but caring about those there and would welcome them in like family, not a bystander (often the case with smaller churches) 2. Randy’s messages are profound, deep, grounded and really dive into the meat of things in a way that can be followed and brings to light vital points that are often overlooked 3. The worship team although small is really really good and vital, it’s not a concert, it’s giving praise to God. I personally am not a big fan of worship, but I really enjoy and appreciate River’s team.
To wrap things up: many other churches are like drinking a Soda, it’s sweet and bubbly and requires little effort, but offers no gain. We as Christians need a full meal with protein, nutrition, and water. The River church RGV offers this.
Pastor Randy can sometimes get carried away on minor things or go off on a tangent, I say this not as a negative comment, more of a comment that we all have areas to grow in and I myself struggle with the same things.. Every person, pastor, and every church will have their flaws and imperfections as we all do. I greatly appreciate how steady Randy goes through the sermon and how often he summarizes and closes with some vital and heart moving and thought provoking actions and questions that allow us to think on our faith in and outside of church and grow. Randy is also very caring about the church and family and loves to talk to anyone and everyone after the service. I am going to River Church to grow, and I have grown. I, for one of the first times in my life, look forward to church and the discoveries I will find their. Cheers, thanks for reading, rare that I write a review but more people need to find this church.
