5 /5 John Halenkamp: It had been a decade since I last visited Shogun in Paris. I walked in with some nostalgic expectations, and was truly delighted to find that the place still delivers.
I entered, and the atmosphere felt just great, warm lighting, the signature hibachi-grills sizzling, and chefs working their tableside magic in true teppanyaki fashion. The décor and layout looked fresh and well-maintained, no major changes necessary, but clearly taken care of.
The food? Stellar. The hibachi cooking was entertaining and delicious; the sushi bar also offered a vibrant selection with rolls and nigiri that hit the mark. The balance of show-dining with genuine flavour made for a memorable experience.
Service stayed strong, the staff were friendly, enthusiastic, and worked to make the visit enjoyable, just like I remembered. If anything, the small size of the place adds to its charm (though at busy times you might want to go early or call ahead).
