Mesquite Wood Steak House - Kenedy (TX)

3 /5 Renee McKinley: We travel thru the town a lot and have wanted to try this place,so we stopped. Not sure what to expect as its not in a fancy looking building. Has lots of mesquite wood out front which plays with the name of the restaurant. It is a little pricey and the steaks were larger size ounces no 6 or 8 ounces. I had the NY strip and the corn and loaded baked potato was great. The corn tasted like it was fresh not from a can like it does at so many places. The NY strip I had was a different story. I had ordered it medium well but came out more medium and it had no taste to it plus it was cold. I assumed they had cooked the steak first then had it waiting for other things to finish. My husband had the chicken fried steak and he said it was delicious. Out the door with tip included we spent $74 for 2 people.

5 /5 Nathan Epling: Oh my!! This was on point. I just wanted a burger and this burger was much better than I was expecting. I had the basic double cheeseburger but the flavor was so damn good. The seasoning was good. It must have been some good beef. Totally satisfied and I hope you stop here on your way through town.

4 /5 David Donat: They served us rolls to start which could have been a little more fluffy. We order calamari. Which was good. They were not chewy like some places. But they do need to change the oil they were fried in. She had the catfish which was very delicious. It didnt have a fish taste. It was prepared correct. So great job. I had the shrimp parmesan. That also was very appetizing. Great flavor. But the oil needs to changed on the fried food items.

5 /5 LeeAn Benavides: Looks can be deceiving. Don’t be put off by the location or appearance. I was not expecting this caliber of food from this restaurant but I was surprised and impressed. The ribeye was moist and cooked to perfection. The quail was not over cooked and was very juicy and moist with a delicious mesquite wood flavor. The rolls were warm and tasty. The cinnamon butter added the little extra touch. I will say the fried pickles were very good and crispy but very greasy. Overall fantastic food and pricing wasn’t bad either.
