1 /5 CC: I recently hosted a birthday party at Hook and Reel for a group of nine, and unfortunately, our experience was marred by horrifically rude service. From the moment we arrived, the waitress displayed a negative attitude, making us feel like an inconvenience whenever we made a request.
We asked for extra sauce for our crab boils, but instead received an extremely spicy version that several guests couldn’t handle. When I brought this to her attention, she reacted rudely, rolling her eyes and walking away instead of addressing the mix-up. Additionally, my drink was served in a glass that had a noticeable crack. When I pointed this out, she again treated me as if I were being unreasonable, albeit reluctantly switching the glass for a new one.
To make matters worse, the restaurant automatically added a gratuity charge due to our party size. While I understand that this is a common practice, I believe that respectful service should accompany such a gratuity. It felt unfair to reward someone for such poor service. When I voiced my concerns, she simply stated that the policy was posted on the door, but having a policy does not excuse being rude to customers.
As for the food, it left much to be desired, which further contributed to our disappointing dining experience. I understand that every establishment can have an off night, but the combination of unsatisfactory service and mediocre food has convinced me that I wont be returning to Hook and Reel in the future.
