4 /5 Justin Porter: What a gem in historic Gonzales, Texas! Great atmosphere, feels very high end, and the service to match. I ordered the shrimp and grits. It was delicious, shrimp perfectly cooked, sausage with just a little color to them, and the sauce was balanced with a nice bit of spiciness, but not overpowering. I’d highly recommend - the only reason this review is a 4 and not a 5 is because the plate was very sloppily presented. The kitchen staff obviously put a lot of effort into the dish because it was delicious. But at the end, they just slopped it on a plate, haphazardly added some very wilted salad greens and sent it out. In lots of more casual places, presentation isn’t a big deal, but for what they’re going for here, they should step up the game. Wouldn’t take much for this little gem to be over the top awesome.
