5 /5 Steve Ford: Stepping into the Davy Crockett Grill, we knew we were deep in the heart of Texas. Country and western music played overhead, a rodeo was on the TV, and the atmosphere was pure Lone Star pride. The walls told a story—vintage Dr Pepper and Coca-Cola signs, a Trump bumper sticker, and a well-worn Davy Crockett rifle on display. Two mounted deer heads and racks of antlers added to the rustic charm. Right near the entrance, the Pledge of Allegiance was proudly displayed, reminding us we were in a place that values tradition.
We kicked things off with a basket of fresh, spicy pork skins straight from the fryer—hot, crispy, and packed with flavor. Sharon had catfish and onion rings, while I dug into what might be the best taco salad I’ve ever eaten. The fajita chicken was grilled to perfection—savory, tender, and full of smoky goodness. Paired with cheese, tomatoes, and avocado (I asked them to hold the onions), it was huge, delicious, and satisfying.
The service was fast, the waitresses were friendly, and the decor made us feel right at home. With its mix of history, Texas pride, and a laid-back, welcoming vibe, this place is a gem. If we’re ever in these parts at lunchtime again, we’ll be back!
