1 /5 gaby cf: I do not recommend this jeweler. I brought in a piece of jewelry that weighed 3.1 grams, along with 8.8 grams of gold from two rings to be melted and added to it. In total, I provided 11.9 grams of gold. When I picked up the finished piece, it only weighed 10.0 grams—meaning 1.9 grams of gold were unaccounted for.
I was told the loss was due to “melting and dusting,” but I wasn’t given any leftover scrap, dust, or a clear breakdown explaining where the missing gold went. That’s 16% of my gold gone with no accountability.
While I understand that 5–10% gold loss is considered normal in melting and reworking, a 16% loss is not typical or reasonable without a detailed and honest explanation. I was likely overcharged in material loss—or the gold was mishandled or taken.
I paid for the work, but I left feeling cheated. If you value your gold and expect transparency and professionalism, look elsewhere.
