5 /5 LaTasha Rodgers: From Kid to Crossfitter to Entrepreneur—Thanks to Defiant Crossfit
Let me start by saying—Defiant Crossfit is more than a gym, it’s family. My brother Ronnie, who has Down syndrome, came to Defiant when he was just 16 years old, not long after our mother passed away. Our mom was meticulous about Ronnie’s health, and I was determined to carry that torch. That’s when we met Marcus.
From day one, Marcus saw Ronnie the athlete, not just Ronnie with Down syndrome. He locked in with Ronnie’s spirit, pushed him with compassion, and never let a day go by without encouragement, high-fives, and that special blend of discipline and warmth. Over the years, Ronnie’s body has transformed—he’s gone from a kid into a strong, confident man. His growth under Marcus’s care has been phenomenal.
But what’s more incredible is that Marcus and the Defiant community don’t just train Ronnie—they uplift him. They’ve celebrated every milestone, welcomed him every session like a champion, and never once treated him as anything less than one of their own.
Today, Ronnie is thriving. He’s launched a growing modeling career and runs a physically demanding loaded French fry food truck. None of that would be possible without the strength, discipline, and confidence he’s built at Defiant.
At this gym, Ronnie isn’t just a man with Down syndrome—he’s a Crossfitter. And we are forever grateful.
