  • Armadillo Boulders - San Marcos - San Marcos
Elli Sweet: UPD: Disappointed by Unprofessional Staff and Poor Cleanliness I had an unfortunate experience during my visit to Armadillo Boulders today. From the moment I walked in, the front desk staff came across as rude, unhelpful, and surprisingly disrespectful. Instead of providing a welcoming environment, their behavior felt intrusive and unprofessional — asking personal questions that were unnecessary and made me uncomfortable. The facility itself was also poorly maintained. The seating areas and tables were dirty, with visible food crumbs left behind, and the restrooms were in a shockingly unsanitary state. For a place that was nearly empty at the time, there seemed to be little effort from staff to maintain even basic cleanliness. It’s frustrating to see a facility with so much potential be overshadowed by inattentive service and poor hygiene standards. I hope management takes steps to better train their team and prioritize the customer experience — starting with respect and cleanliness. Armadillo Boulders – San Marcos is my least favorite of the three Armadillo locations. While it has its charm, especially the kids’ play area which is fun and nicely tucked away, the overall setup left me a bit underwhelmed. Everything is located on the first floor, with the second floor being just a seating/lounge area, which feels like a missed opportunity for more climbing space or engaging features. On my visit, the gym was pretty quiet, which made it more noticeable that some areas weren’t as clean as they could be: tables and seating surfaces had a visible layer of chalk dust, which should’ve been easy to take care of during a slower time. Music-wise, while I do enjoy reggae in general, it didn’t quite match the vibe for a climbing environment. I found it a little too laid-back and not particularly motivating when youre trying to get into an active, focused headspace. That said, I appreciated the presence of a piano (it adds a unique, personal touch, but I do wonder how well it holds up in a chalky, high-traffic setting like this). All in all, its not a bad gym, but compared to the other two locations, it didn’t feel quite as polished or energetic.
    Club Pilates - San Marcos
jada rodela: I want to preface this by saying my review isn’t about the workouts themselves, but about the staff and my first impression of this studio. I booked a complimentary intro session and showed up late by mistake — that part was completely my fault. However, when I walked into the lobby, the two front desk employees just stared at me without greeting or offering help. I had to initiate the conversation and explain the situation, but they responded very dryly that I was too late and would have to reschedule. Their tone and body language made me feel like I was a bother for even being there. I still rescheduled for another class, but honestly, I didn’t feel comfortable going back. It’s hard to want to work out somewhere when the staff makes you feel judged and unwelcome. After missing my rescheduled class, I received a message asking why I hadn’t shown up. I replied honestly that the staff had been rude. The general manager, Libby, reached out afterward asking for details, and I explained everything. I never heard back from her. It’s disappointing because I was genuinely interested in joining after coming from another Pilates studio, but the overall experience left me feeling dismissed and unwelcome. If this location had new management and a more professional front desk team, I’d consider giving it another try. Until then, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

angel sixtyton (60tonangel): Patrick is one of, if not the, best people Ive ever met. Total positive influence. As a trainer hes top notch and could easily go to Hollywood and train high rollers but chooses the quiet life here serving his community with passion and integrity.

Shawna Padilla: Great place.Clean, great environment and positive atmosphere! The owner is super helpful. All machines are it great condition. There are fans in the corners of the gym witch make it very nice when your working up a sweat. Music plays over the speakers to keep you motivated. Restrooms are kept up,they have showers as well as shampoo conditioner and soap. I have been a member here for 2 months and I couldnt be more pleased.

Colby Collier: I’ve been a member for 13 years or so and I’ve never been approached by anyone about slamming weights. Never had a conversation with the gym owner at Athens, but he had his manager Call me to tell me I was locked out as he apparently witnessed me slamming weights I do not believe that it is fair to be locked out with no warning whatsoever. His manager advised that he said he talked to me before about this, multiple times which is a bold face lie. We NEVER talked and I asked for proof whether it be video or written and nothing was provided. I asked for the owner to call me multiple times to discuss and this was over three weeks ago, and he has never called. I believe he is a racist because I had my wife in there that day with me who is a person of color I believe that he is very unprofessional and apparently not decent enough to even talk to me. I’m considering legal action as it is illegal to discriminate based on race For a club that is not considered private. I am guessing he’s close to retirement and doesn’t care anyway but thought I would share.
    MTX Fitness - Malakoff
Jessica Massey: Was visiting town for the holidays and did a guest pass for MTX. Easy 24/7 access, solid range of equipment for all workouts and it was spotless. Everyone I met there was super friendly and it was definitely a very welcoming gym community! Looking forward to coming back next time I am in Malakoff!
